Party Affiliation:
Republican
Occupation:
I currently serve as the Assistant Registrar of Vital Statistics for the City of Shelton, where I support residents through public service and accurate recordkeeping. I have dedicated many years to civil service, which has strengthened my belief in helping those in need and giving back to the community. As a former business owner in Fairfield, I actively participated in fundraising efforts for organizations such as the Boys & Girls Village and for hurricane relief initiatives. I have also supported causes benefiting military members living with PTSD, local police, and animal shelters. I am deeply committed to people, service, and community improvement, which is why I am running for the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting (RTM) — to ensure that every voice in our community is heard and represented with integrity and compassion.
Family:
Joseph Miro, 31, graduating with Masters of Psychology at Fairfield University, December 2025. Julianna Miro, 27, BS Public Health, Coastal Carolina University. Both Honor Roll students and I am proud to say that they have each been inducted into the National/International Honor Society for their respective schools. Both attended North Stratfield, Fairfield Woods Middle, and Fairfield Warde High School.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No.
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
I was appointed by Mayor Finch to implement the first Conservation Department for the City of Bridgeport in 2009. It was highly successful and I was given the opportunity to train up to 125 youths to become stewards of the environment. This entailed working closely with many private/public sectors. Under my leadership, the City of Bridgeport was awarded a grant from the EPA in recognition of our teams hard work and dedication to environmental initiatives.
Why are you seeking this office?
I truly care about Fairfield. I’ve lived here for over 33 years, built successful businesses, and raised two wonderful children. I’ve seen our town grow and change, and I believe it’s important that every resident has a voice in shaping its future. That begins within each of our ten districts. Regardless of political affiliation, we must come together to put Fairfield first — ensuring our town continues to move forward in the right direction while preserving the character and values that make it so special.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is traffic and speeding throughout Stratfield Village in District 4. I have heard from numerous neighbors about cars speeding through stop signs and ignoring crosswalks, even when pedestrians—often children—are trying to cross. Many families have raised these concerns to the town, but little action has been taken. I intend to advocate for tangible safety measures, such as installing speed bumps in key areas, adding flashing lights at four-way intersections along Stratfield Road, and increasing enforcement to ensure drivers respect our community’s safety. Everyone in Fairfield deserves to feel safe walking and driving through their neighborhood.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I believe that everyone who runs for the RTM does so with good intentions. However, I also believe that actions speak louder than words. I am committed to seeing every concern through until it is fully addressed and resolved.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
First and foremost, fiscal oversight of how our tax dollars are spent is essential. Having worked in Shelton’s Planning and Zoning Department, I’ve seen firsthand the growing concerns surrounding the 8-30g bill and overdevelopment. While progress is necessary to support our economy, it must be balanced with thoughtful planning and strict oversight to ensure we preserve our town’s unique character and charm.
Under the umbrella of “progress,” we must also plan responsibly for the impacts that come with growth — such as potential overcrowding in our schools, increased student-to-teacher ratios, traffic congestion, parking shortages, and the need for more police and fire personnel. Each of these factors contributes to increased spending, which is why responsible budgeting and community input are crucial.
Additionally, we must protect and maintain our natural spaces. I’ve personally witnessed litter left behind at our beautiful beaches and at Lake Mohegan, and I believe we must strengthen efforts to preserve these community treasures for future generations.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Throughout my career in civil service, I’ve consistently demonstrated my ability to manage responsibilities that require accuracy, organization, and compassion for the public. In my current position as Assistant Registrar of Vital Records for the City of Shelton, I handle sensitive public records with confidentiality and precision while assisting residents with essential services. This role has strengthened my attention to detail, knowledge of municipal procedures, and ability to provide quality service under pressure.
Prior to that, I managed a youth program for the City of Bridgeport that served over 100 young people. I coordinated partnerships with organizations like the Audubon Society and led programs focused on STEM education, financial wellness, and civic engagement through a junior city council initiative. These accomplishments taught me how to plan and execute programs that make a direct impact on the community.
I’ve also extended that commitment beyond work by volunteering in fundraisers for veterans with PTSD, animal shelters, and local causes such as hurricane relief and the Boys & Girls Village. Altogether, these experiences show that I can handle this job’s responsibilities with professionalism, empathy, and dedication to public service.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Ignore the noise, stay focused and achieve ones goal.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I never give up. In the face of adversity, I believe in standing tall and persevering. As your representative for District 4, I will be a dedicated voice for our community—working to keep our town safe, affordable, and the beautiful, charming place we’ve always been proud to call home.
