Fairfield 2024 Election Results: Hwang, Other Locals Win Re-Election
The polls have closed in Fairfield for the 2024 elections, and here are the latest updates on how local residents voted.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Shortly after the polls closed Tuesday night, vice President Kamala Harris was announced as the winner of Connecticut's seven electoral college votes, defeating former President Donald J. Trump and three other candidates, according to the Associated Press.
Also, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, won re-election and a third term in Congress, according to projections. He defeated GOP challenger Matthew M. Corey and two other candidates.
In the 4th District, the Associated Press reported that incumbent Democratic Congressman Jim Himes won re-election Tuesday, defeating challengers Dr. Michael Goldstein, Republican, and Benjamin Wesley, Independent.

Incumbent Republican state Sen. Tony Hwang defeated Democratic challenger Rob Blanchard, John Craven of News 12 Connecticut reported.
In Fairfield, Hwang garnered 18,178 votes to Blanchard's 15,591 as of 3:15 a.m., according to unofficial results from Democratic Registrar of Voters Matt Waggner.

Additionally, incumbent Democratic Reps. Jennifer Leeper, Cristin McCarthy Vahey and Sarah Keitt all appeared to win re-election, based on the unofficial results from Waggner as of 3:15 a.m.
Connecticut voters also approved the ballot question that will allow no-excuse absentee voting, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State’s office.
The unofficial tally on the ballot question was 458,605 in favor to 373,337 against.
Votes are still being counted in other key races, including the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state General Assembly races.

All eyes, of course, are on the presidential race between main party candidates vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump Beyond the presidential race, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, is seeking reelection to a new six-year term and is being challenged by Matthew M. Corey, Justin C. Paglino, and Robert Finley Hyde.
Residents also voted for their local representative in the U.S. Congress, and their local state representative and senators in the General Assembly in Hartford.
Tuesday night's vote totals will also determine whether Connecticut will allow each person to vote by absentee ballot in future elections.

For President, the candidates are: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Democrat; Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance, Republican; Jill Stein and Butch Ware, Green Party; Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat, Libertarian; and Robert Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan, Petitioning candidate.
For United States Senate, the candidates are: Christopher S. Murphy, Democrat, and Matthew M. Corey, Republican. Murphy is also endorsed by the Working Families Party. Other candidates include: Justin C. Paglino, Green Party, and Robert Finley Hyde, Cheaper Gas Groceries Party.
For U.S. Congress in the 4th District, the candidates are: Jim Himes, Democrat; Dr. Michael Goldstein, Republican; and Benjamin Wesley, Independent.
For state senate in the 28th Senatorial District, the candidates are: Rob Blanchard, Democrat, versus Tony Hwang, Republican. Hwang is also endorsed by the Independent Party.
For state representative in the 132nd District, the candidates are: Jennifer Leeper, Democrat, versus Alexis Harrison, Republican. Harrison is also endorsed by the Independent Party.
For state representative in the 133rd District, the candidates are: Cristin McCarthy Vahey, Democrat, versus Chris Verras, Republican. Vahey is also endorsed by the Working Families Party.
For state representative in the 134th District, the candidates are: Sarah Keitt, Democrat, versus Melissa Longo, Republican. Keitt is also endorsed by the Working Families and Independent parties.
For Registrar of Voters, the candidates are: Matt Waggner, Democrat, versus Cathy Politi, Republican.
For Probate Judge, the candidates are: Kathy Caulfield, Democrat, versus Daniel Ford, Republican.
