Fairfield To Activate Cooling Centers As Another Heatwave Approaches

The state's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol is in effect from noon on Sunday to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Information from the Town of Fairfield:

FAIRFIELD, CT — Another heat wave is expected to impact Connecticut in the upcoming week, bringing high temperatures and high dew points. CT’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol will be in effect from 12:00 pm on Sunday, 7/14/2024, through 8:00 pm on Wednesday, 7/17/2024.

The purpose of the protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe hot weather conditions. Anyone who needs a cool place to get some relief can call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org to get directed their nearest cooling center.

In Fairfield, residents seeking cooling centers can visit:

1) Bigelow Center for Senior Activities: Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm

2) Fairfield Public Libraries during business hours:
Main: Mon - Thur 9am - 8pm; Fri 9am - 5pm; and Sat 12pm - 5pm
Woods: Mon - Thur 9am - 8pm; Fri 9am - 5pm; and Sat 12pm - 5pm

3) The lobby of the Fairfield Police Department and Sullivan Independence Hall

You can also cool down by going for a swim at the beach, calling a family member/friend with air conditioning, or visiting various public air-conditioned places like malls, movie theaters, and restaurants.
