Fairfield Fire Department Issues Advisory On Thursday, Friday Storm

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected, in addition to dropping temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A storm on Thursday that will linger into Friday is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Fairfield and the region, prompting fire officials to issue a warning of possible coastal flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for the Friday morning high tide for all coastal areas. Additionally, Gale Watches have been issued for all waters Thursday night through early Saturday morning, according to Fairfield Fire Lt. Robert Smith.

"We recommend cars in flood prone areas be relocated to higher ground on the morning of Dec. 23," Smith said in a statement. "Residents who may be traveling should prepare in advance if they will be away on Friday. High tide is at 10:43 a.m. Veterans Park on Reef Road or the Train Station Parking lot are good alternatives."

In addition to the wind and rain, temperatures are expected to drop rapidly into the weekend, which could also make travel difficult on local roads.

"Please prepare your homes for cold weather if you plan on being away for the holidays to prevent frozen pipes and flooding," Smith said.
