Fairfield POCD Was Adopted Legally — False Claims Undermine Public Trust

After years of public hearings, Fairfield's POCD was adopted legally. Misleading attacks only erode confidence in the process.

Recent allegations that Fairfield’s new Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) was “illegally adopted” are false, reckless, and politically motivated. They appear intended to sow distrust in local government during an election season. They are divisive, do not to improve public understanding, nor address Fairfield’s growth challenges.

The POCD process was properly conducted, noticed, reviewed, and adopted after seven years and 34 public meetings. It passed by a lawful majority vote on October 8, 2025, in full compliance with Connecticut General Statutes § 8-23. The Town Attorney reviewed the matter and confirmed that the process was both legal and procedurally sound.

Equally concerning, those making these claims ignored the Town Attorney’s written guidance and their sworn duty to uphold the law. Some of the same commissioners now questioning the outcome had the lowest rate of meeting attendence and a pattern of delaying importance decsions, often citing "other commitments".

Fairfield residents deserve facts, not fear. As voters make their choices, I hope they will look closely at those candidates who show up, have done and will do the work, respect the process, and participate in good faith. Our town needs informed leaders who attend meetings, understand the law, listen, and serve with integrity, not those who spread misinformation to score political points.
