FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Public Library is preparing to launch its 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, an annual program aimed at encouraging community members of all ages to read during the summer months. This year’s theme, Level Up!, runs from June 13 through Aug. 9 and includes events, activities, and incentives to promote reading.

Participants are encouraged to read at least 1,000 minutes over the course of the program. Those who reach a bonus goal of 1,500 minutes will be eligible for additional rewards. Registration is available through the free Beanstack app or via the library’s website. The app allows users to track reading time, complete activities, write reviews, and monitor their progress toward earning prizes.

The program officially begins on Friday, June 13, when participants may start logging their reading minutes. A children’s kickoff event will take place that morning at the Fairfield Museum & History Center, 370 Beach Road, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event includes games, crafts, cotton candy, temporary tattoos, and a dance party at 10:30 a.m. for children under age five.

All age groups—children, teens, and adults—can participate in the challenge. Prizes include magnets and playing cards for adults; “brag tags,” books, and dragon plush toys for younger readers. Digital raffle tickets earned through the program can be entered to win themed prize bundles, including craft kits and party sets.

According to the library, the program helps young readers maintain their literacy skills over the summer and encourages exploration of different book genres. As of early June, more than 560 people have signed up for the challenge.

Additional events planned throughout the summer include scavenger hunts, escape room-style games, and mini art projects. All activities are free and open to the public.
