Holiday Caroling Party Scheduled At Southport's Pequot Library

The event is just one of several delightful programs the library has scheduled in December.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Pequot Library announces its December programs for attendees of all ages, most of which are free and open to the public. Of particular note, don’t miss the Holiday Caroling Party on Dec. 5 at 5:00 p.m. Read on for more details.

On Dec. 4 at 6:00 p.m., join local candle maker Oddette Staple-Brown, owner of Oh D’Luxe Candle Company, for a festive evening of candle making. Participants will learn about wax and wick selection, then blend, pour, and create your very own 9-ounce pure soy candle to take home. Choose from a variety of cozy, holiday-inspired fragrances or craft a custom scent that’s uniquely yours. Complete your creation with a personalized label for the perfect finishing touch. Refreshments will be provided. The cost is $45 for materials and snacks.

The beloved Holiday Caroling Party returns on Dec. 5 at 5:00 p.m. This is Pequot Library’s signature winter event, full of festive holiday cheer: crafts, choirs, treats, horse-drawn carriage rides, a surprise visitor from the North Pole, and our holiday market featuring local vendors.

On the following day, December 6 at 2:00 p.m., New York Times bestselling author Diane Morrisey will share her journey from her lively Instagram presence to her first cookbook, You Got This! Recipes Anyone Can Make and Everyone Will Love. Copies of her book will be available to purchase thanks to Barrett Bookstore.

On Dec. 12 at 6:00 p.m., three-time Grammy® winner and Steinway Artist Gustavo Casenave returns to Pequot Library. Celebrated for his virtuosic performances and deeply expressive improvisations, Casenave moves fluidly between classical, jazz, and tango traditions—crafting each moment with spontaneity and emotional depth. Recognized internationally for his unique artistry and recipient of numerous awards, including the 2025 Artistic Excellence Award from the Connecticut Office of the Arts, Casenave invites audiences into a space where composition and improvisation merge—where every note is born in the moment. Stay afterwards for a reception with light refreshments.

On Dec. 13 at 7:00 p.m., bring your family to celebrate the season and join Pequot Library and Shakespeare on the Sound for the annual reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, directed by Winsome Brown. During the course of one memorable Christmas Eve, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future help Ebenezer Scrooge discover that it is never too late to be redeemed and change from his miserly ways. A reception with drinks and bites will follow the performance.

Join Christine Catallo, Director of Library Services, on Dec. 18 at 6:00 p.m. for a look into Jane Austen’s life and work to mark the 250th anniversary of her birth. Catallo will present a talk on Austen’s life, her novels, and their enduring appeal, from well-loved adaptations to quirky modernizations. Toast the legacy of Jane Austen with cordials and cupcakes. Regency dress encouraged.

Don’t miss two virtual talks the library has planned in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium. On Dec. 2 at 2:00 p.m., tune in for Scheming Wives and High-Stakes Hilarity with Author Sue Hincenbergs. On Dec. 9 at 2:00 p.m., don’t miss The Legacy of Julia Child’s Kitchen with Author and Smithsonian Curator Paula J. Johnson.
