Rachelle Mitchell, 81 of Milford, passed peacefully on April 26, 2025

Rachelle's life was one filled with deep love, unwavering faith, and a commitment to service.


Rachelle Mitchell, 81 of Milford, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at her home in Milford, CT, while surrounded by her loving family. Rachelle was born on March 28, 1944, in Bridgeport, CT, to the late Robert and Ruby Whitted. Rachelle was the beloved wife of Jerome Eugene Mitchell, for nearly 56 years.


Rachelle’s life was one filled with deep love, unwavering faith, and a commitment to service. She met the love of her life at a party, and from the moment they were introduced, it was clear they shared a special connection. Love quickly blossomed, and they were married on May 17, 1969, in a beautiful ceremony at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Bridgeport, Connecticut.


A dedicated student, Rachelle attended Career Academy and Housatonic Community College, where she earned her associate degree as a medical technician. She went on to have a long and successful career at Bridgeport Hospital, where she worked with pride and compassion for over 45 years.

Rachelle loved spending time with her two granddaughters whenever she could. She loved teaching them how to garden and taking walks with them on the beach. She also had a passion for collecting art and sculptures, and she found joy in working with ceramics. Deeply devoted to her family, Rachelle also cherished traveling the world with her beloved husband.


Faith was a cornerstone of Rachelle’s life. She served as a eucharistic minister at St. Agnes Church in Milford for many years and lent her voice joyfully to every church choir she belonged to. More recently, she continued her ministry work as part of the Care Ministry at Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield, where she was a beloved member of the congregation.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jerome, Rachelle is survived by their daughter Kimberly Wilson, son-in-law Michael Wilson, granddaughter Aryana Wilson, granddaughter Cheyenne Wilson, brother Robert Whitted Jr., and sister Karen Whitted. She is also remembered by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Rachelle was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.


Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday May 1, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Cemetery, 315 Buckingham Ave, Milford CT. Please meet directly at the cemetery.
