Southport's Pequot Library Announces April Programs For All Ages
Of particular note, "New York Times" bestselling authors Russell Shorto and Sigrid Nunez will visit the library for author talks in April.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Pequot Library has announced a lineup of free public programs for April, including author talks, musical performances, and seasonal activities for all ages.
The month begins with Library Giving Day on April 1. Children ages 3 and up are invited to Drop-in Storytime at 10:30 a.m., followed by a community gathering at 2:00 p.m. featuring cookies and lemonade. The library circulates nearly 25,000 books and eBooks annually, and funds raised on Library Giving Day will contribute to purchasing additional materials.
Historian and bestselling author Russell Shorto will visit the library on April 10 at 6:00 p.m. for a Meet the Author event. Shorto, known for "The Island at the Center of the World," will discuss his latest book, "Taking Manhattan: The Extraordinary Events That Created New York and Shaped America."

The library’s annual Easter Egg Roll will take place on April 19 at 10:00 a.m. Activities include traditional egg-rolling races, crafts, games, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Participants are encouraged to bring hard-boiled eggs for decorating and a long-handled wooden spoon for the race. The event is sponsored by St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School.
A musical performance titled "From Italy with Love Presents 'Dolce Vita'" is scheduled for April 24 at 6:00 p.m. The program will feature award-winning ensemble "Italian Women in Music," including opera singer Silvia Di Falco, with a repertoire spanning Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, and others.

Another notable author event will be held on April 26 at 2:00 p.m., featuring Sigrid Nunez, National Book Award winner and author of "The Friend." Nunez will be in conversation with poet and former Westport Poet Laureate Jessie McEntee. The event is sponsored in part by the Westport Writers’ Workshop.
The Pequot Library has also partnered with the Library Speakers Consortium to offer virtual talks. Highlights include bestselling author Jodi Picoult on April 2 at 7:00 p.m., Smithsonian Gardens horticulturalist Matthew Fleming discussing trees on April 8 at 2:00 p.m., and a conversation with thriller writer Gregg Hurwitz on April 24 at 7:00 p.m.
Additional ongoing programs include Music and Movement for young children, the Teen Advisory Board, and the Knitingales knitting group. More details can be found on the library’s website.
