Veterinary Hospital Planned For Former Fairfield Boston Market Site
The proposal is different from the Spot On dog hospital and hotel application that the Town Plan and Zoning Commission recently denied.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A former Boston Market restaurant on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield is slated to become a new veterinary hospital, following approval this week by the Town Plan and Zoning Commission.
Bond Vet, which has 32 locations, mostly in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and the Washington DC area, is looking to open a primary and urgent dog and cat care facility at 1968 Black Rock Turnpike, next to a CVS Pharmacy.
The planned veterinary hospital is different from the proposed Spot On Veterinary Hospital & Hotel, which was denied by the commission this week.

On Tuesday, the commission unanimously approved the plan for Bond Vet, which will only need 13 parking spaces on the Black Rock Turnpike property, well under the 25 spaces that Boston Market used.
"There is no overnight boarding or daycare proposed for this facility, no kenneling," Fairfield Planning Director Jim Wendt told the commission, in reference to the rejected Spot On proposal, which would have boarded more than 70 dogs in the hotel portion of its facility.

"This complies with our regulations, and so I think it should be approved," said Commissioner Lenny Braman.
Patch reached out to attorney William Fitzpatrick, who represents the building owner, to find out when the new facility might open, but did not immediately receive a reply.
The Bond Vet facility will be in a business zone, which Wendt said allows for an animal to be boarded overnight for medical reasons, if needed.
"I don't even think they're proposing that," Wendt said. "I think that what they're saying is that if there is a need to board a dog for medical reasons, they would make arrangements with another veterinary facility. But technically, yes, if a dog needed a medical procedure that needed to stay overnight as a result of that procedure, that's not prohibited under our regulations."
