Farmington High Crew Fundraiser To Feature Faux Quackers
The Friends of Farmington Crew and the FHS crews squads are selling sponsorships for an upcoming May 7 'Duck Race' on the Farmington River.

FARMINGTON, CT — If you see a wave of high school-aged males and females trying to sell you toy ducks in upcoming days and weeks, don't fret, it's all for a good cause.
That's because, the Farmington High School boys and girls crew squads are raising money for the teams' annual Duck Race fundraising event to take place next month.
The goal for 2023 is to raise $35,000 so the team can purchase a brand new boat trailer to transport boats, oars and other equipment to away races, according to the Friends of Farmington Crew booster club.

Of course, when people buy a duck, they're really not walking away with a floating, plastic toy.
Rather, they're placing a bet with a similarly numbered duck to be released on the Farmington River that day.
The "race" is actually a game of chance, with the currents of the river randomly determining which faux quackers cross the finish line first.
If you're duck comes in first place, you win $1,000; second- and third-place finishers receive $500 each, according to event organizers.
Hosting the events are the Friends of Farmington Crew and the Farmington High School River Hawks Rowing team.
Event flyers are being distributed throughout town with QR codes that allow folks to sign up and sponsor a racing duck electronically.
In addition, team members and supporters will be at several locations in Farmington in coming days and weeks collecting donations for duck sponsorships.
The donation is $11 per duck; $47 for five ducks; and 10 ducks for $85.
Regardless of whether one wins or loses, the effort is all to benefit the young men and women rowing for their town.
May the Farmington River's current be ever in your favor.
