FARMINGTON, CT — A town plan to boost the walkability and exercise options in the town center, especially for seniors, has recently received a $19,107 boost.

Farmington Town Manager Kathleen A. Blonski notified the Farmington Town Council last week of the town's receipt of a grant for the project.

At the July 12 council meeting, Blonski said Farmington Economic Development Director Rose Ponte successfully applied for an AARP Community Challenge Grant, which awarded the town the funding for the enhancement project.

As a result, the town will install wayfinder signs in the town center, a bike rack and "age-friendly" benches, all of which will "safely guide trail users to the town center's amenities," according to meeting minutes.

According to the town, the project will increase "walkability, social connections and provide safe access to users, especially those over 50," read meeting minutes.
