New Coffee Shop Approved In Farmington

FARMINGTON, CT — A recently opened gift shop in Farmington will soon be a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, along with a sweet treat or two, after local officials' approval last week.

The Farmington Plan and Zoning Commission April 28, unanimously said "yes" to a special permit for the owner of the retail gift shop "Curated" at 902 Farmington Ave.

That permit will allow Curated proprietor Patricia Nevin — the owner/operator of GHA Designs, which does business as "Curated" — to sell coffee, tea, cappuccinos, espressos, along with "sweet and savory pastries."

The special permit is a change of use for the prior approval, one allowing for a small-scale cafe, and it did not require a public hearing, the PZC ruled.

Members determined the application did not require a traffic study because of the size of the proposal, and all of the questions were answered, thus negating the need for a hearing.

Nevin said the business opened on Dec. 31, 2024, and it has steadily grown.

"Business has been steady and growing since I opened, and I am looking to expand my business to include a small coffee shop inside the same premises," Nevin said.

She said the expanded use would feature a new kitchen, five tables, and 10 chairs inside the store.

Nevin said the new coffee shop would require one additional employee to staff the site, but another one might be added.

As for parking, Nevin said she shares 15 spots with another tenant of the building with whom she shares space with.
