GLASTONBURY, CT — When the weather warms up, so will the Eversource tree-trimming program in Glastonbury.

Eversource Energy on Monday announced that it will be conducting "cyclical vegetation management in the transmission right-of-way" in Glastonbury during the spring and summer of 2025.

The transmission line enters Glastonbury from the north near Bush Hill Road, travels south across Bell Street, Hebron Avenue parallel to Hawthorne Mead Diver, Candlelight Drive, Neipsic Road, Route 2, New London Turnpike next to Three Mile Road, Chestnut Hill Road, Coldbrook Road, Country Club Road, and then Clark Hill Rd before entering Portland.

Eversource or authorized crews will be "selectively" targeting incompatible plant and tree species on the "floor" of the right-of-way, and side trimming for clearance along the edges. Contractors will use mowers and hand cutters, bucket trucks, telescoping trimmers, and climbers, officials said.

Eversource officials said a project notice was mailed to property owners within the project area in mid-December. The letter indicated that project work will include:

  • Clearing of incompatible trees and/or removal of branches that are encroaching into the right of way.
  • Removing tall-growing tree species that are incompatible to the transmission system, using manual climbing crew or mechanical tree-harvesting equipment, and tree-chipping machinery.
  • Removal of vegetation within the cleared areas of the right of way, through cutting, and/or mowing.
