Glastonbury Man Releases Solo Rock 'N' Roll Album

"Sentimental Junk" is Tom Guerra's fifth album. It includes a duet, a Bob Dylan cover and a tribute to his bandmate who died of COVID-19.

GLASTONBURY, CT β€” Tom Guerra of Glastonbury, a rock 'n' roll songwriter/guitarist, has released a new album titled "Sentimental Junk" that he said was born out of restlessness during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

"This is a back to the roots thing for me," said Guerra, who is also the frontman of indie band Mambo Sons. "My last album featured a lot of acoustic tunes but this record reflects my renewed love affair with the electric guitar and the pent up energy that being in lockdown for two years brings."

The album includes several blues and R&B songs, such as "California's Got to My Girl," a duet with Boston musician Jon Butcher; and "A Song for Mark Easton," written about Tom's bandmate who died of COVID-19.

In total, the album has ten original songs, including ones titled "Think for Yourself" and "Eyes to the World" (a tribute to guitarist Leslie West). It also features a cover of "Clean Cut Kid," a 1983 Bob Dylan song.

"I loved Dylan's 'Clean Cut Kid' and I was curious to see how it might fare with a harder, straight-ahead rock and roll arrangement," Guerra said.

The album is Guerra's fifth β€” his debut was "All of the Above" in 2014, and since then he's released "Trampling out the Vintage" (2016), "American Garden" (2018), and "Sudden Signs of Grace" (2020).

"I am proud to call Tom Guerra a friend and fellow brother-in-arms," Butcher said. "I highly recommend 'Sentimental Junk' as a must-hear for anyone digging on guitar music... Like me!"

In addition to Butcher, Guerra's longtime collaborator Kenny Aaronson contributed to the album as well β€” he arranged the horns and strings on two of the songs.

"Tom is a great songwriter. He has great pop sensibilities, and I really like his way of crafting a melody," Aaronson said. "He is a sensitive and keen observer of the human condition as one will hear in his lyrics."

"Sentimental Junk" can be found on Apple Music, Pandora and YouTube Music.
