Glastonbury to Receive Small Town Economic Assistance Program Grant
Glastonbury state legislators applaud the grant.

Glastonbury is one of 15 town in Connecticut that have been approved to receive funding under the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), which assists smaller communities with infrastructure and capital improvement projects.
The grants, announced Thursday by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, are the first of several rounds anticipated to be announced this year.
Glastonbury will receive$320,000 for the construction of a Facilities Maintenance Division Operations Building. The project involves construction of a new 4,000 square foot building to meet town needs by creating an Emergency Preparedness Center and Facilities Operations and Maintenance Center.
According to the announcement, “The project scope includes the construction of the building, access drive, parking, lighting, landscaping, signage, energy efficiency, emergency power, life safety code and other related construction work. The project will benefit the community by improving response to emergency conditions and creating proper storage, care, repair and access to vital supplies and equipment.”
“By partnering with our smaller towns, we can support local projects that improve centers of commerce, transportation infrastructure, and town facilities, to make our state stronger and more competitive, all while improving quality of life,” Malloy said in a statement.
“These investments mean smaller towns can undertake important improvement projects,” Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman said. “Upgrading housing and roads, revitalizing centers of commerce, and other projects help these towns maintain critical services for residents.”
State Reps. Prasad Srinivasan and Mark Tweedie applauded the announcement of a Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant for Glastonbury.
“I am thrilled that Glastonbury will receive this funding,” said Srinivasan (R-31). “Our community’s emergency response program is already very strong and will be further strengthened with this funding. Glastonbury is certainly a worthy recipient of this grant, as this funding is necessary to create a new facility. The project will benefit the community by improving response to emergency conditions and creating proper storage, care, repair, and access to vital supplies and equipment. I have worked closely with Town Manager Johnson on this project, and thank him for his leadership on securing this funding. We are always conscious of how the state spends its money, especially in this difficult fiscal environment, but I will always support worthy projects like this one.”
“This funding will go a long way for Glastonbury,” said Tweedie (R-13). “I am pleased that the Town will receive funding for such an important project. I applaud all that our emergency responders do for our community and know that this grant will support their work by creating this wonderful new facility for them and their supplies.”
