A Halal food restaurant is coming to Glastonbury and is joining Vernon as part of a franchise expansion.

GLASTONBURY, CT — A Halal food restaurant is coming to Glastonbury.

Franchise owner Marlon Ganesh and his family made the announcement Friday at the grand opening of their new Shah's franchise in Vernon.

"We are in the process of signing a lease in Glastonbury and Shah's has approved the location," Ganesh told Patch.

Shah’s Halal started as a food cart in 2005 at 121st Street and Liberty Avenue in the Richmond Hill section of Queens in New York City.

In 2016, it opened its first Long Island branch with the goal in mind of becoming, "the best Halal food restaurant in Long Island, NY," and has been growing ever since.

Ganesh said a buildout plan has not been finalized yet, but will be after the lease is official.

Ganesh, a Wethersfield resident, said he grew up having family in New York and discovered Shah's as a go-to place on his way back home to Connecticut.
