More Charges Filed Against Hartford Man In Connection With Crime Spree In Glastonbury

A Hartford resident is facing more theft-related charges in Glastonbury, police said.

GLASTONBURY, CT — More charges have been levied on a 23-year-old Hartford man in connection with a series of crimes in Glastonbury in 2024, police documents show.

On Thursday, Glastonbury police announced that, on July 10, Kevin Ortiz-Rivera was charged via a warrant with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny and first-degree criminal mischief for his involvement in a gas station burglary on April 22, 2024.

A day earlier, Glastonbury police served a warrant at Manchester Superior Court charging him with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt at larceny of a motor vehicle. The warrant stemmed from the investigation into a series of vehicle burglaries and an attempted vehicle theft that occurred on April 29, 2024, records show.

Ortiz-Rivera is in Department of Corrections custody on what is now more than $1.2 million in bonds, judicial system records show.

Ortiz-Rivera's outstanding cases take up about an entire page on the judicial system web site and Glastonbury is prominently featured.

For example, in early May 2024, he was one of four people rounded up in connection with a February crime spree in town, police said. The case dates back to the early morning hours of Feb. 4, when several incidents took place, including a burglary to the Shell gas station located at 2088 Hebron Ave., several vehicle burglaries at residences, a motor vehicle stolen from a residence and an armed robbery involving the use of a handgun at the Mobil gas station located at 2997 Main St.

Through evidence located at the scenes, the completion of search warrants and work with other agencies, Ortiz-Rivera was identified as a participant by the Glastonbury Police Department Investigations Division, the Greater Hartford Regional Auto Theft Task Force, Hartford police, Waterbury police and the FBI.

Ortiz-Rivera, then 21, was charged with third-degree burglary with a corresponding conspiracy, criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree robbery with a corresponding conspiracy, first-degree threatening, reckless endangerment, fifth-degree larceny with a corresponding conspiracy, sixth-degree larceny with a corresponding conspiracy and larceny of a motor vehicle with a corresponding conspiracy.

Also, in Feb. 2024, Ortiz-Rivera was charged with second-degree robbery, probation violation and failure to appear in court, records, show.

He is due back in court on Aug. 26, judicial system records show.
