After a decade of serving the Greater Hartford community with warmth, flavor, and hospitality, “The Berkins” are announcing the closure of their two beloved locations. Berkins on Main, located inside the Hartford Public Library Main Street branch, will close on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, followed by Berkins Blend Café on Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
Founded in 2015 by Doug Barber and Andréa Hawkins, Berkins Blend Café quickly became known as more than just a coffee shop—it was a vibrant community hub. From its signature Berkins Blend four-bean coffee roast to fresh bakery items, soups, and teas, the café has welcomed regulars, tourists, students, and neighbors alike.
The name “Berkins” itself is a heartfelt fusion of Barber and Hawkins—symbolizing their union in marriage and in mission.
“This has been an extraordinary journey,” said co-founder Andréa Hawkins. “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built and deeply grateful for the community that embraced us over the years.”
Doug Barber, General Manager and Co-Founder, will be retiring to enjoy a well-earned chapter of rest and relaxation. Andréa will continue her work as CEO of Leading Culture Solutions, a boutique business advisory firm she launched in 2019.
As the cafés prepare to close their doors, Berkins invites the community to stop by, share memories, and enjoy a final cup of their favorite beverage. Information on the sale of goods and equipment will be shared in the coming weeks.
