"I would look up to certain athletes but more for odds they overcame and leadership abiliies people like NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton, one arm MLB pitcher Jim Abbott, NBA Hall of Fame Inductee Michael Jordan, NBA Hall of Fame Inductee Larry Bird, Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Cal Ripken Jr of course were people I truly admired. However it was more local heroes such as teacher / Olympian John Kelley, former Fire Chief Daniel Keogh, Uncle Joesph Wysocki, Aunt Karen Wysocki, Great Uncle Joseph Annino who won the Bronze Star in World War 2 , Former Groton Town Police Chief Peter Donahue, my father and mother both Florence Nightingale award winners, my cousin who was a teacher Leanne "Wysocki" Williams, my cousin NCAA Hall of Fame Athlete Brenda Jeane Post Killebrew Brenda (Post) Killebrew (2010) - Hall of Fame - Western New England University (wnegoldenbears.com) , Dr. Sheldon Gardner, Reverend Rilla Holmes, and my youth group leader Groton Town Police officer Doug Hoffman those are the people who mattered to me the most in my life" said Christopher Annino.
At Culter Middle School in Mystic, Connecticut is where he had teachers open his eyes the most at the possibilities. "If it wasn't most of the teachers at Cutler Middle School I would be totally lost. I gravitated towards history because it helped me gain knowledge of sociology, strategy and human behavior. We learn from mistakes for failed attempts ....the three history teachers who really enlightened me were Mr. Bing Bartick, Mr. Burt Rood, and Ms. Diane Portelance. The other people who helped me were my reading teacher Chaz Zezulka especially with the book he read us called the Button Boat which was about the great depression. And thank God for chorus teacher Mrs. Ruth Eichelberg. The one teacher who had the most impact on me wasn't even my teacher it was Ms. Linda Cady...I admit when I was young, I would constantly get in trouble for silly nonsense however these teachers I mentioned knew how to get my mind focused. Ms. Cady would usually see me sitting outside because I was usually in "trouble"...however I remember one day where she stood up to the very teacher who would keep me outside the hall . Ms. Cady took the time to talk to me and knew I had a brain and was not a troublemaker....she did not give up on me nor did those other teachers. That was a difficult time for me because I did not have many friends and zero support" said Annino.
