Five Things To Know Today

More Rain, The Groton Board Of Education And Turtles

1.  Today is Monday, May 23. The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies, possible showers and thunderstorms, a high temperature near 61 degrees and a low near 58. More rain is forecast for Tuesday.

2.  The Groton Board of Education continues discussion this evening on how to close an education budget gap of $2.1 million. More than 100 parents, teachers and students jammed the school board meeting last week, venting over a decision by Representative Town Meeting to level fund the schools. The school board may opt for higher classes sizes in some grades and program cuts to avoid closing a middle school.

3.  A free workshop on how to do business with the government will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Groton Public Library. Brien Robertson, of the Procurement Technical Assistance Program, and Lisa Powell, of the Small Business Administration, will discuss topics including state and federal programs for women-owned businesses.
