Submarine Base Firefighters Mourn Former Chief's 'Untimely' Death

A past chief and longtime member of the department died over the weekend, according to the firefighters' union.

GROTON, CT — A former chief of the Submarine Base Fire District has died, according to the firefighters' union.

Submarine Base Firefighters Local F-219 posted the following on Facebook:

Today we bear heavy hearts as we announce the untimely passing of past Chief of Department, Douglas Say.

Chief Say passed yesterday April 6, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends in his Niantic home.

Chief Say started at Submarine Base Fire Department in 1974 and after a successful career he retired in 2008, having spent his last 5 years as Chief of Department.
