Lane Closures Coming Up With I-95 Tree Work In Southeastern CT

The DOT announced that tree work on I-95 will begin next week and extend into October.

GROTON, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation will be doing tree removal on I-95 in both directions from exits 86 to 90 in Groton and Stonington.

The project is scheduled to begin Sept. 9 and end Oct. 11, according to a Town of Groton statement.

Drivers can expect lane closures in the area while work is ongoing. The project's schedule is 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The DOT is removing dead, diseased, and decaying trees to "ensure the safety of the public."

Trees and vegetation that have grown into the clear zone, which is the safety space along the side of the roadway, are also being removed.

"This work helps save lives in the event of a crash or vehicle leaving the roadway," according to the statement.
