Transit Study Explores Major Rail Expansion In Southeastern CT

GROTON, CT — The state Department of Transportation is holding public information meetings on major transit projects that would have a significant impact on Southeastern Connecticut.

The Eastern CT Corridor Rail and Transit Feasibility Study covers possibilities such as extending Shore Line East rail service to Rhode Island, establishing a new passenger rail service from New London to Norwich, establishing a new passenger train station in the Town of Groton and Stonington, and extending bus services in Southeastern Connecticut to provide better connections with rail lines.

The includes four potential station sites in Stonington for alternative routing options for Shore Line East passenger rail, according to a Town of Stonington post.

The meetings will provide an overview of the study and offer the opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide comments.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m., at the Groton Senior Citizen Center at 102 Newtown Road.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Otis Library at 261 Main St. in Norwich.

A virtual meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. via a Zoom webinar. More information here.
