Victim Suffers 'Serious Physical Injuries' In Groton Assault, Police Say

A man is facing accusations that he assaulted a woman while a child was present, according to police.

GROTON, CT — A Groton man is facing accusations that he seriously injured a woman while an infant was present, according to police.

Town of Groton police responded to a call at Friday at 5:08 p.m. reporting an active disturbance.

Police found a woman with "serious physical injuries including significant trauma to her head, face, and eyes," according to a police report.

Following an investigation, police found that a man "struck the victim multiple times with a closed fist."

An infant child was present during the assault, police said.

The victim was treated for her injuries at a local hospital and later released.

The man was charged with second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree breach of peace, and interfering with an officer.

He was held on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Monday morning.
