GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is reminding residents that a medication dropbox is available in the main lobby of the police station for the safe disposal of unused or unwanted medications.
The dropbox is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is intended to provide a secure way for the public to dispose of medications that are no longer needed. Police said all items placed in the box are collected and destroyed in a safe and secure manner.
Items accepted in the dropbox include prescription and over-the-counter medications, medication samples, vitamins, medications for household pets, and medicated patches or ointments.

Certain items are not accepted and should not be placed in the box. Those include sharp objects and needles, hazardous waste, thermometers, inhalers, aerosol cans, and personal care products such as lotions or shampoo.
Residents are also asked not to place bags or boxes in the dropbox.
