HARTFORD, CT — Four people were found dead, including two children, on Monday morning in a massive house fire in a residential neighborhood in Hartford.

WFSB Channel 3, citing the Hartford Fire Department's chief, said Monday that four people were killed in a large blaze at a multi-family residence on Shultas Place.

According to Channel 3, the fire was so intense that neighboring residences were evacuated.

WTNH Channel 8 reported that two adults and two children were killed in the fire, which resulted in nearby roads being closed early Monday morning due to the blaze.

The Hartford Fire Department re-posted on social media Monday morning the WTNH report stating that two children and two adults were killed.

As of early Monday morning, crews were still on the scene, with most of the fire knocked down as of 6 a.m., according to multiple reports.

Later in the day, the union representing the Hartford Fire Department firefighters called the blaze a "terrible tragedy."

"Thoughts and prayers to all involved in this terrible tragedy," wrote Hartford Firefighters Local 760 on Facebook.

No further information has been released as of late Monday afternoon.
