During the ball, Arulampalam, who was sworn in as Hartford’s 68th mayor at the start of the year, addressed the crowd and emphasized his belief, hope and faith in the future of Hartford.
Arulampalam's remarks highlighted the diverse makeup of Connecticut's capital city and the inclusive approach his administration will bring to the mayor's office:

"This evening is a celebration of the life, culture, and vibrancy of our great city. A celebration of our promise. And it’s a celebration of each and every one of you, because each of you are a part of the rich tapestry of this city, each of you has an important part to play in building what the future of this City looks like," he said.
Arulampalam also touched on the various experiences he will carry with him into office, chief among them his role as a father:
"As you all know, I’m the proud father of five young kids. Like all parents, I see the world through my children’s eyes. The great thing about having young kids is they believe anything is possible and they make you believe it too."
As he did earlier in the day at the Old State House, Arulampalam closed by urging attendees to join him in a pledge to work together to build a stronger Hartford:
"I’m going to ask you to take an oath with me tonight: Hartford, will you stand up for this city and fight your heart out for it? Will you roll up your sleeves and work together as one for the sake of this city? Will you pledge to always believe in our limitless potential? Then let’s get to work Hartford."
