Arulampalam Wins Hartford Dem Mayoral Primary: Reports
Hartford hasn't had a GOP mayor in more than 50 years, with Tuesday's winner the likely new chief executive of the city.
HARTFORD, CT — The endorsed Democratic hopeful for mayor in Hartford and the man incumbent Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin publicly supported will likely be the new mayor.
Democrat Arunan Arulampalam, 37, declared his victory Tuesday night following a three-way Democratic primary, according to multiple media reports.
WTNH Channel 8 reported that Arulampalam took home 39.59 percent of the votes, with Eric Coleman earning 30.53 percent and state Sen. John Fonfara, D-Hartford, garnering 29.87 percent.

Hartford hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1971 and the GOP challenger, Mike McGarry, has said he doesn't expect to win in November, but is running to provide an alternative candidate to Democrats, reports CT Insider.
Connecticut Public reports that Arulampalam has never held elected office, with his victory announcement coming at Dunkin' Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats.
