Urban Gardening Group Seeks Hartford Contest Participants
The deadline for nominations for top Hartford gardens is Friday, Sept. 3o.

HARTFORD, CT – City slickers with green thumbs are being sought for an annual awards ceremony that honors those who grow things in environments not known for being agriculturally friendly.
And the deadline is fast approaching — Friday, Sept. 30.
Now in its 9th year, the annual HUGS Awards shine a light on the wide array of public and private assets in Hartford.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2021 Hartford Urban Gardeners Society Awards annually presented by KNOX, Inc., McCarter & English, the City of Hartford, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Advocacy To Legacy.
"This event recognizes and celebrates current and past winners for their hard work, incredible efforts, and impressive results," reads a statement by event organizers.

Awards are to be presented in the following four categories:
- Private or Home Garden
- Public or Business Garden
- Community or Organization Garden
- “Love Your Block” Project completed in 2022
"Hartford features many beautiful green spaces," organizers wrote.
"Every neighborhood has at least one spot where everyone recognizes as a person who loves to garden and share that love with us all."
Awardees will be celebrated on November 19, 2022 in a special ceremony during the annual KNOX Harvest Market held on Laurel Street.
Nominations – for yourself or others – are due before Friday, Sept. 30.
