Canton Resident/Hartford Teacher Killed In Ski Accident: Reports

The 53-year-old man was a teacher at a state technical high school in Hartford.

CANTON/HARTFORD, CT — A teacher at a state technical high school in Hartford is being mourned Monday morning after an apparent ski accident claimed his life in Utah over the weekend.

Canton resident Daniel Negrelli, a computer applications instructor at A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford, was killed Saturday, Feb. 22, while skiing in Utah.

According to WFSB Channel 3, Negrelli died in a ski accident at the Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah, which is outside of Salt Lake City.

WVIT Channel 30 reported that the Unified Police of Greater Salt Lake received a call of an unresponsive person at the resort who appeared to have hit a tree.

Meanwhile, officials with the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System, which oversees the state's technical high schools, issued a statement on Negrelli's passing.

Prince Tech will have grief counselors available for students and staff should they need them.

"We are heartbroken by the passing of Dan Negrelli, a beloved member of our school community. He was an exceptional educator and a cherished mentor, colleague, and friend. Dan made a lasting impact both in and out of the classroom, touching the lives of students and staff in countless ways," wrote CTECS.

"This is a tremendous loss for our school, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. Grief counselors will be available to support students and staff during this difficult time."
