Hartford Mulls New Pet Limit Rules: Reports

The Hartford City Council, later this month, will discuss a new ordinance that would limit how many dogs and cats residents can have.

HARTFORD, CT — The City of Hartford is mulling a new ordinance that would limit the number of dogs and cats its residents can have.

According to WFSB Channel 3, the proposed rules come as the city's animal control officers has reported multiple instances of dogs not being vaccinated, spayed, neutered, and dogs becoming aggressive.

The proposed ordinance, according to WTHN Channel 8, would cap the number of dogs/cats to six, with no more than four dogs.

It means, for example, that a person could have six cats total (and no dogs) or four dogs and two cats, WTNH reported.

The proposed fine is $100 per day of violation, with a hearing slated before the Hartford City Council on Dec. 15.
