Hartford Woman, 41, Accused Of Driving Drunk The Wrong Way: Police

The incident happened early Sunday morning on Interstate 84 in Hartford

HARTFORD, CT — A 41-year-old Hartford woman has been accused by state police of driving drunk the wrong way on Interstate 84 in Hartford early Sunday morning.

According to the Connecticut State Police, Desiree Garcia, 41, of Hartford, was charged with failure to carry an operator's license, reckless driving, operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs, driving the wrong way on a limited access highway, illegal carrying of a firearm under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Garcia was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Hartford Superior Court Oct. 23.

According to police, on Sunday, Oct. 5 at approximately 1:56 a.m., Troopers from Troop H - Hartford were notified of a Blink-Link Wrong Way Driver activation alert on I-84 in Hartford.

Emergency dispatchers were able to review and confirm there was a silver sedan traveling the wrong way on the Exit 46 on ramp, police said.

Upon arrival, troopers observed two vehicles involved in a head-on collision with minor injuries reported.

On-scene investigation revealed the operator was Garcia.

Police said Garcia was exhibiting signs of intoxication and was requested to perform field sobriety tests, which she failed to perform to standard.

Garcia was placed under arrest without incident and transported to Troop H for processing, police said.

A search revealed Garcia had a firearm inside the vehicle.
