Hartford's Aetna Issues Pink Slips The Week Before Christmas
All of the employees report to Hartford, but they work from home and live in several states.
HARTFORD, CT — For the third time in as many months, a Hartford-based insurer is announcing yet another wave of layoffs to staff assigned to the Hartford facility, this round coming days before Christmas.
CVS Health, the corporate operator of Hartford-based Aetna, sent notice Friday, Dec. 20, to the state Department of Labor and Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam of more layoffs assigned to Aetna's 151 Farmington Ave. site.
According to the notice, 164 employees are targeted for termination between Feb. 15-28, 2025.

While assigned to that Hartford office, CVS Health said none of the employees work at the site, but do report to the facility.
CVS said they are work-from-home employees, with most living out of state.

"All employees who will be terminated as a result of this action have been notified of their specific separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent," wrote CVS in the announcement.
The positions eliminated, according to CVS, are tied to the "unexpected loss of a contract in Kansas."
Of the 164 workers slated for unemployment, only three live in Connecticut, the rest living in several states scattered throughout the country, mostly in Kansas, according to CVS.
This latest announcement comes after CVS announced the layoff of 416 employees reporting to Hartford in October and an additional 42 workers last month.
Those layoffs, CVS has said, are part of a massive CVS plan to trim $2 billion from company expenses, a byproduct of declining, in-store sales nationally.
