HARTFORD, CT — Election Day is in November, but before that potentially historic day, local voters have some work to do on Aug. 13 as the ballot needs to be finalized via primaries.

Throughout Connecticut, Republicans will be deciding the GOP senatorial hopeful looking to unseat U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn.

In that primary race, Gerry Smith is taking on Matthew M. Corey for the right to oppose the incumbent.

The Dems on the ballot for the primary are state Sen. Douglas McCrory, D-Hartford; Shellye Davi of Windsord; and Ayana Taylor of Windsor.

The state Senate Democratic primary will impact several Hartford voting districts. They are: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 24.

Given the city's Democratic history and the fact McCrory has run unopposed for several terms, the primary could be a de facto election for the state Senate seat.

Meanwhile, early voting is available Aug. 5-11 at Hartford City Hall, in the Hartford Registrar of Voters Office, 550 Main Street, Hartford.
