Intense Fire Displaces 13 In Hartford: HFD
The Aug. 30 conflagration fully engulfed an apartment building's porches in the early morning hours.
HARTFORD, CT — City fire officials are investigating the cause of a spectacular porch fire at a multi-level apartment building over the Labor Day holiday weekend that displaced 13.
The Hartford Fire Department said it was able to "quickly contain" a porch fire on South Whitney Street and no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
Early Saturday morning, Aug. 30, the HFD was called to 71-73 S. Whitney St., located in the city's West End.

"Arriving units found heavy fire on the rear porches of a three-story brick multi-family residence, with extension into the third floor," wrote the HFD, which posted images on social media showing the conflagration at its peak.
The HFD said firefighters quickly brought the situation under control by 1:30 a.m.

"All searches were negative, all occupants were accounted for, and no injuries were reported," wrote the HFD.
The HFD said a partial collapse of the rear porches occurred during the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
The HFD Special Services Unit worked with the American Red Cross to assist five families, comprising 13 residents (10 adults and three children), who were displaced.
