Find out what's happening in Greater Hartfordfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
This one-hour virtual session will help participants understand the difference between typical age-related memory changes and the more serious signs of Alzheimer’s disease. The presentation will also explore the diagnostic process, available resources, and—most importantly—the disproportionate impact Alzheimer’s has on women, especially Black women.
Why This Conversation Matters
According to the Alzheimer’s Association:

- Two-thirds of Americans living with Alzheimer’s are women
- Black women are twice as likely as white women to develop late-onset Alzheimer’s
- Yet, Black women are less likely to be diagnosed early, missing the critical window for care, planning, and support
Emerging research suggests that hormonal changes during menopause may play a role in increased risk. At the same time, systemic inequities in healthcare have led to underdiagnosis and underrepresentation of Black women in clinical research.
“This webinar is not just about awareness—it’s about empowerment,” said a representative from the Farmington Valley Chapter of The Links. “We want to equip families with knowledge and resources to advocate for themselves and their loved ones.”
