Labor Day In Hartford, What's Closed?

Monday, Sept. 1, is Labor Day, with people being treated to one last long weekend of summer.

HARTFORD, CT — With summer's unofficial end coming this weekend, folks have one more day of relaxation on Monday, Sept. 1, Labor Day.

And, because of that, the City of Hartford has announced impacts to municipal services due to the holiday. Among them:

• Most city offices, including Hartford City Hall, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, for the Labor Day holiday. They will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

• All Hartford Public Library sites are closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. They will reopen as normal on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

All Hartford Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, for the Labor Day holiday. They will reopen the next day, Tuesday, Sept. 2.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September.

It is an "annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers," wrote federal authorities.

"The holiday is rooted in the late 19th century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being," wrote federal officials.
