Intersect Public Solutions and McDowell Communications Group to Merge

Press release
HARTFORD, Conn. – Two top Connecticut firms, Intersect Public Solutions and McDowell Communications Group, are merging to create the state’s premier public affairs and strategic communications consultancy. The newly combined firm will be based in downtown Hartford and will operate as Intersect Public Solutions, serving a diverse portfolio of corporate, nonprofit, trade association, and municipal clients in Connecticut and across the country.
Founded in 2019 by Brian Durand and Michael Mandell, Intersect Public Solutions is a full-service public affairs consultancy, specializing in strategic planning, communications, grassroots advocacy, and digital media. Prior to forming Intersect, Durand served as Chief of Staff to former Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy and Mandell was Executive Director of the Connecticut Democratic Party.
McDowell Communications Group, established in 2006 by Duby McDowell, has been a leader in media strategy and executive communications, drawing on McDowell’s experience as a former Connecticut TV political reporter. The firm has guided major corporations, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations, helping them to navigate an evolving media and political environment.
“Joining forces with Intersect Public Solutions strengthens our ability to serve clients at the highest level while expanding the range of services we provide,” said Duby McDowell, President of McDowell Communications Group. “We’re now bringing together two firms with deep Connecticut roots, a shared commitment to excellence, and a track record of delivering results. I’m excited about what we’ll accomplish together.”
“This merger brings together two firms with distinct but complementary strengths, creating a premier public affairs practice,” said Brian Durand, Founding Partner of Intersect Public Solutions. “With our combined experience, we are uniquely positioned to help clients navigate today’s fast-moving communications and policy landscape.”
Michael Mandell, Founding Partner of Intersect Public Solutions, added: “This is an exciting new chapter for both of our teams. Merging with McDowell Communications Group will give us the ability to offer a broader range of services while maintaining the personalized approach our clients trust. With our expanded team and capabilities, we’re ready to help clients tackle complex challenges and seize new opportunities.”
As part of the transition, The Laurel—McDowell Communications Group’s widely read online publication covering Connecticut’s media landscape—will remain active and continue to provide insights into the state’s news industry.
