Man, 24, Charged With Driving Drunk The Wrong Way In East Hartford Crash: Police

The accident last Sunday injured a 20-year-old Glastonbury woman, whose car was struck head-on by the suspect's vehicle.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — A 24-year-old Pennsylvania man will face a judge later this month after being charged with driving drunk in a wrong-way collision in East Hartford last weekend.

According to Connecticut State Police, Nolan James Murphy-Genoa, 24, of Hershey, Pa., was charged Sunday, Oct. 12, with reckless driving, evading responsibility for injury/property damage, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He was released on $5,000 cash bond and will appear in Manchester Superior Court on Oct. 29.

According to the state police accident report, the crash took place on Route 2 in East Hartford at about 3:51 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Police said Murphy-Genoa was driving a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited the wrong way on Route 2 East, heading westbound in the area of Exit 2B.

That's when the Jeep Murphy-Genoa was driving slammed head-on into a 2023 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 20-year-old Glastonbury woman.

Police said Murphy-Genoa fled the scene after the crash, but was later located and taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old woman was taken to Hartford Hospital for suspected minor injuries, police said.
