HARTFORD, CT — A massive protest against the policies of President Donald Trump and Elon Musk is being planned in Hartford Saturday afternoon at the State Capitol.

A national grassroots organization called "Hands Off 2025" is hosting the rally/protest from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Connecticut State Capitol, 210 Capitol Ave., Hartford.

Protesters from throughout the state are expected to come out and express concern about the actions of Trump and Musk since Trump took office on Jan. 20, with "Hands Off" protests planned nationwide on Saturday.

Since assuming power, the Trump administration has slashed thousands of federal jobs and engaged in a trade war with key U.S. allies.

While supporters claim it is to create a more efficient government to save tax dollars, critics contend it is a power/cash grab for the nation's corporate elite at the expense of most.

Musk, the richest man in the world, wasn't elected, but was appointed by Trump to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that Trump created via executive order.

Since Musk took control of many aspects of the American government, thousands of federal employees have lost their jobs, and services have been disrupted, critics claim.

"Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. Connecticut is fighting back," wrote "Hands Off" in an announcement online.

"They're taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now."

Despite rising political tensions nationally, "Hands Off" protest organizers are urging folks to attend and commit to "non-violent action."

"We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values," wrote organizers.
