More Layoffs Announced At Hartford-Based Insurer
This is the sixth time since fall 2024 that layoffs have been announced at this major Hartford employer.
HARTFORD, CT — For the sixth time since fall 2024 and the third time this year, a Hartford-based insurer is laying off more workers.
CVS Health, the corporate operator of Hartford-based Aetna, sent a notice on Oct. 17 to the state Department of Labor and the City of Hartford that more layoffs were assigned to Aetna's 151 Farmington Ave., Hartford, site.
According to the notice, 72 more employees are targeted for termination starting Dec. 31.

All of the impacted employees live outside of Connecticut, but the remote workers are assigned to the Hartford office of Aetna, according to the notice.
Of the 72 workers slated for pink slips, none reside in Connecticut itself, according to Aetna.

The layoffs are being attributed to CVS Health ending its Aetna Medicare Medicaid Program due to the loss of a contract for 2026, according to the notice.
Aetna said none of the employees being let go are unionized, and there are now "bumping rights," meaning longer-tenured staff are not being prioritized to keep their jobs.
This is the sixth wave of layoffs at the Hartford site.
Prior layoffs were:
• April 2025, with the termination of 55 employees.
• January 2025, with the termination of 13 employees.
• December 2024, with the termination of 164 workers.
• November 2024, with the termination of 42 employees.
• October 2024, with the termination of 416 workers.
Much of the layoffs, CVS has said, are part of a massive plan to trim $2 billion from company expenses, a byproduct of declining in-store sales nationally.
