Work of Hartford’s Legacy Foundation to be Featured at National Educators’ Conference
The Legacy Foundation's work will be featured at the largest conference for literacy educators on Nov. 20

HARTFORD, CT, Nov 17, 2025 – A panel highlighting the ground-breaking work of the Hartford-based Legacy Foundation will present before the largest annual gathering of English language arts teachers and literacy educators in the US this Thursday, Nov. 20. The conference, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), will be held in Colorado. Moderated by Legacy Program Founder Greg Jones, the panel will include Ashley Jackson, Program Manager for The Legacy Foundation; former UConn Professor Danielle Filipiak; Felicia Hamilton and Kenneth Estelle from the Windsor Public Schools; and Reba Stanley from Achievement First.
The session, It Takes a Village to Nurture Legacy: Cultivating Brilliance, Belonging and Racial Literacy in Out-of-School Spaces, will feature insights from the work of The Legacy Foundation. The Foundation’s programs have successfully supported the well-being and academic success of Hartford youth from grades 3-12 since 2012. Following the conference’s theme, Dream Boldly, panelists will share creative applications for The Legacy Foundation’s work, which involves literacy teaching and the promotion of positive civic, social and academic literacy identities.

Founded in 2012, The Legacy Foundation supports college readiness and life skills. The nonprofit focuses on addressing disparities in education and health for students who are often overlooked by the educational system. They provide college counseling, out-of-school enrichment activities, health education programs, mentoring, academic tutoring, and teacher-led weekend academic courses.
The Legacy Foundation’s goals are to provide educational programming and increase student exposure to a variety of experiences. The organization focuses on developing intellectual and social habits within students that prepare them for success.
