Why are you seeking this office?
In short: quality education is the means to a quality life. Young people need the tools to be successful in their lives. The current state of our schools is not equipping them properly.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
Educational distractions. What I have done about it, push for the elimination for cell phones in schools and for more use of traditional paper and pencil to complete assignments, with less reliance on technology. My next target area is “rigor” in classroom instruction. Students need to be held accountable for assignments and grading.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I am happy that I was able to work well with many members on our current Board. I hope to continue that legacy. I do believe we made positive strides in the past two years.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Accountability with administration is another goal. Fairness demands that they be held to the same standards that other staff do
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Accomplishments I can cite in the past two years could not have been accomplished without a level of empathy towards my fellow board members.
Prior to Board service, my years in education working with special education, low-performing math students, general education students, and as a term as a paraprofessional/tutor union president have granted me unique experiences in working with diverse populations of students and adults.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
”leave it better than you found it.” While the line was always said by my father at the end of Boy Scout camping trips, it governs my life.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Serving on the Middletown Board of Ed can be a thankless job if you do it for the wrong reasons. With that said, I experience gratitude on a daily basis, with God as my strength and compass for every action. During my time on the BOE, I have served on the curriculum community as a strong advocate for rigor in the classroom and have voted with accountability in mind.
