Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will be performed by the Connecticut Lyric Opera and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra in Middletown’s MHS Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m.
The Greater Middletown Concert Association is bringing “Don Giovanni” to the Performing Arts Center, which is located at 200 LaRosa Lane, opposite 680 Newfield St. in Middletown.
The opera is sung in Italian, its original language, and has English translation titles projected above the stage during the performance. The opera “Don Giovanni” blends comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements. It is to be noted that a stream of beautiful melodies and breathtaking music runs through this opera’s powerful Mozart score.
“Don Giovanni” is the Don Juan story of fictional history about that outrageous young Spanish nobleman who thinks he must conquer many women daily with his seductive art. Luck Scott sings the role of Don Giovanni and Nathan Resika is his ever present servant Leporello who lends a comic touch to the plot.
The three women’s roles of Donna Anna, Donna Elvira and Zerlina will be sung by Jurate Svedaite, Heather O’Connor and Emily Hewes. The Conquistadore’s ghost will be Steven Fredericks. Adrian Sylveen, the production’s conductor and artistic director, will continue his mission of bringing quality professional opera to Connecticut.
Tickets to “Don Giovanni” are $40 (front) and $35 (rear) and may be purchased and reserved by calling 860 347-4887 or 860 346-3369. All major credit cards are taken. Information is available via the e-mail: bmwa@aol.com or on the website: www.GreaterMiddletownConcerts.org.
