Man Pulled From CT River Last Month Identified As Middletown Resident

HADDAM, CT — The body of the person discovered in the Connecticut River in Haddam Meadows State Park on Dec. 30 was that of a Middletown resident, state officials said Monday.

According to a statement released by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the person has been identified as Steven Bauer, 69, of Middletown.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, DEEP officials said. The agency received a report about a body in the river at about 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 and Bauer was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.

The incident remains under investigation, DEEP officials said.

Haddam Meadows State Park takes up 175 acres on the west bank of the Connecticut River in Haddam. The park offers picnic areas, fishing and a boat launch.
