
Written by Jim Bransfield and posted by Cassandra Day. The Middletown High School Agricultural Science and Technology Center will hold Open House on Thursday, April 11, at MHS, 200 LaRosa Lane. There will be two sessions. The first, which is geared towards preschool and elementary school age children, will he held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second session, which is for the general public, runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The sessions are free and reservations are not needed. However, if groups of 20 or more are planning to attend, the Center asks that these be pre-registered by calling (860) 704-4599, Ext. 4594. "The purpose of the Open House is to showcase the Agricultural Science and Technology Center through student displays, demonstrations and hands-on activities," said Dept. Chair Rebecca Isaacson. "These will highlight key curriculum areas of plant science, animal science, agricultural mechanics and environmental science." The Vo-Ag program is available to high school students from Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Durham, East Hampton, Essex, Guilford, Haddam, Killingworth, Madison, Middlefield, Middletown, Portland, Rocky Hill, Old Saybrook and Westbrook. Students who enroll in the program take all regular education classes at MHS in addition to their studies in the Vo-Ag program. They are full time MHS students and may participate in all activities and sports at the high school. The program is currently accepting applications for enrollment from students with an interest in agriculture and its related occupations for the 2013-2014 academic year.
