Middletown Receives $350K From State For Police, Library
Middletown Police Department received $95,000, while Russel Library received $250,000 in state funding.
MIDDLETOWN, CT – Middletown is receiving nearly $350,000 in state funding for library remodeling as well as police body cameras for the Middletown Police Department.
“These investments will only enhance our community here in Middletown and provide necessary upgrades,” Senator Jan Hochadel said. “I am thankful to Governor Lamont and the State Bond Commission for approving this funding that will work to complete these important projects in our community."
From the $350,000 state funding from the State Bond Commission, led by Chairman Governor Lamont, $250,000 is grant-in-aid for the Russel Library accessibility and remodeling project.

“The Russell Library is a cornerstone of our community and is in real need of renovation,” Sensor Matthew Lesser said. “These funds, combined with local support with ARPA funds dedicated by the City of Middletown, will allow Russell Library to renovate its lobby and entrance.”
Representative Kai Belton said libraries provide vital resources to the community they serve, and the money allocated to the Russell Library ensures it’ll continue to be a staple of Middletown.

The remainder of the state funds, $91,763, is to reimburse the Middletown Police Department for purchasing body cameras, dashboard cameras and video storage devices.
Governor Ned Lamont said body cameras had been a valuable benefit for public safety for both police and civilians.
“I am glad that the state could partner with the City of Middletown to get this funding approved,” he said.
“This funding is great for our city as it will reimburse our police department for equipment crucial to their roles and provide funding for renovations to the Russell Library, making it a better public space for residents to enjoy,” Representative Brandon Chaffee said.
