Obituary: Joan Frances (Bergevin) Barron, 83, Of Middletown
Joan worked many years in numerous accounting positions. She loved arts and crafts, animals, bird watching and playing cards with friends.
MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home): Joan Frances (Bergevin) Barron passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and a great friend. Mom was a constant and powerful source of strength and unity for our family.
She was a “Nana extraordinaire” to her grandson Lee.
Joan was born in Torrington, CT and graduated from Lasell Junior College in 1957 with a degree in Accounting studies. She traveled cross country to San Francisco, CA in 1958 for the summer with her two college pals.
She met Bob on a beach there while he was on military leave, and they fell in love. Joan and Bob corresponded via letter and had to wait to be together while Bob was in the service. They married in 1963, and she was the love of his life.
Joan worked in accounting positions for various employers including Hartford National Bank, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and His Dwelling Place, Inc. in Middletown, CT.
Bob and Joan returned to live in Connecticut in 1971. She was a parishioner of St. John's Church and St. Pius X Church in Middletown, and a resident of Middletown for 49 years.
Joan loved arts & crafts and had multiple mini-business ventures together with her friends.
Some of their creations included beautiful wreaths made out of pine cones and little stuffed bears. She enjoyed trips with friends across the countryside in search of unique supplies.
Joan also loved animals. She was a proud Cat-mom to Inky, Ami, Spike, Pink Nose, LS, and Zak over the years. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed outings with Bob to watch them in the wild.
She was an inspirational spokeswoman and advocate for the Vietnam POW/MIA cause. She was asked on multiple occasions to speak about the loss of her brother Charlie whose Air Force plane tragically went down in 1968 and for which her family never received closure.
She was an avid card game player and also relished her monthly Bunco nights with the girls.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy (Lee) Bergevin and Charles Bergevin and her brother Charlie “Buddy” Bergevin (MIA Vietnam).
She is survived by her devoted husband Bob and her three sons and their families, Blair and Carol Bergmann, Tim and Cyndi Barron, and Jeff Barron as well her beloved grandchildren Lee Barron, Blair II Bergmann, Kenny Bergmann, Brentley Bergmann, and Janelle Bergmann.
