Obituary: Raymond W. Kensel, 94, of Middletown

Raymond worked for Turbo Products in Ivoryton as a manufacturing engineer and enjoyed square dancing, woodworking and golfing.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home) Raymond W. Kensel, 94, of Middletown, beloved husband of Betsy (Stevens) Kensel, died Sunday August 15, 2021 at Middlesex Hospital.

He was born in Middletown, son of the late Raymond J. and Viola (Pieta) Kensel. Raymond was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving with the US Navy.

He retired from Turbo Products in Ivoryton where he was employed as a manufacturing engineer. He enjoyed square dancing for 40 years and was an active member, president, and newsletter editor with the Middletown Square Dance Club.

He later joined the Bucks and Does Square Dance Club in Berlin, CT. Raymond was an avid golfer and also enjoyed woodworking.

For several years he provided wooden toys and puzzles for the American Red Cross and a children's hospital.

He was always generous with his monetary donations, time, and other resources.

Raymond is survived by his wife Betsy; son, Jeffrey Kensel of Nebraska; son-in-law, Charles Voboril of Arizona; daughters, Elaine DePenning of Manchester, Cheryl Pelletier and her husband Rodney of Cromwell; sisters, Alice Wrang and Jean Bonnier; as well as three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Voboril of Arizona, and son-in-law, Edward DePenning of Manchester.

Visitation will be Friday, August 20th from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown.

Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Middlesex Hospital, c/o Dept. of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
